WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Colleagues, Friends and Family of the World of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons,

The South African Society of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons [SASMFOS] holds our annual Congress in September this year and it is my honour and a privilege to extend to you an invitation to support and join us at this event.

We will be offering our scientific and social programme in the vibrant and exciting coastal town of Umhlanga in the Province of Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The themes of Soft Tissue Management Around Dental Implants and Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Surgery have been carefully selected to address key advancements, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evolving clinical techniques within our specialty.

The SASMFOS Congress Portfolio, with the immense help of the Local Organizing Committee has worked to deliver a valuable and enriching experience. Local and International experts will present current concepts, emerging trends, and practical approaches, while sharing their insights, experience, knowledge, and skills in these focus areas.

Limited attendance pre-congress workshops have been arranged to include dedicated didactic sessions, with hands on practical exercises. These events have historically shown a high demand so your early registration is encouraged to secure your seat at the course. For our fellow dental and medical colleagues, as well as other healthcare professionals we have arranged a programme to update current managements in patient care, in cases needing multidisciplinary management with medical, dental, surgical and adjunctive therapies.

Apart from the academic and scientific sessions, we encourage your attendance to our social gatherings to network with the trade, to build new professional relationships and strengthen longstanding friendships.

In addition, on a personal note, I find Umhlanga and the greater Durban area offers beautiful beaches, warm hospitality, and a relaxed coastal atmosphere and the local cuisine can in itself be deemed to be a tourist attraction.

Merge onto N2: Take the ramp onto N2/Outer Ring Road heading South towards Durban.
Take M41 Exit: Take exit 182 for M41 towards Umhlanga/Mount Edgecombe/Phoenix North.
Turn onto M41: At the traffic lights, turn left onto the M41 and continue for about 1 km, passing Gateway Theatre of Shopping.
Take Exit: Take the M12/Umhlanga Rocks Drive exit.
