A message from the SASMFOS President

It is a great pleasure to invite delegates to the annual Congress of the South African Society of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons.

This congress will be held in conjunction with the British Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons, Australia New Zealand Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the African division of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists.

  • A cadaver course on head and neck surgery and free flaps on 21 and 22 October at the Sunskills laboratory at Tygerberg Hospital. This is endorsed by the IAOMS as a SIGN course.
  • A facial aesthetics cadaver course on 23 October at the Sunskills laboratory.
  • Three dental implant workshops on 23 October at the Westin Hotel,Cape Town.

The AOCMF TMJ cadaver workshop is a separate event hosted by the AOCMF with separate registration.

The main congress will be held from 24 to 26 October 2019 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The programme comprises a wide range of themes with eminent lecturers from all participating societies and associations, there are also several invited lecturers.

The oral maxillofacial surgery, oral maxillofacial pathology and oral medicine sessions will run concurrently. All lectures will be open to delegates registered for the congress.

Free papers and posters are welcome, we encourage delegates to submit their abstracts.

The SASMFOS EXCO and Local Organising Committee

This year’s congress will officially be opened by SASMFOS, BAOMS, ANZAOMS and the IAOP. Our diverse group of presenters and speakers are represented by both SASMFOS and the IAOP. Topics will cover:

  • complex dental implant reconstruction
  • orthognathics
  • cranio-facial and clefts
  • pathology and ethics
  • TMJ
  • a variety lectures on diverse topics

Our annual congress provides members and affiliates with local and international networking opportunities and the opportunity to promote the industry on a local and international level.
